Abbey Park

Location | Leicester, UK

Abbey Park is one of Leicesters famous historical parks. Abbey Park was purchased from the Earl of Dysart in 1876. The land was then turned into the beautiful green space that sits in the heart of our city. A competition to choose a design for the new park was won by esteemed Victorian landscapers William Barron and Sons.

Today a visitor to Abbey Park can enjoy a variety of activities such as the boating lake, miniature railway, animal corner, exploring the ruins of Leicester Abbey and various playgrounds for children young or old.

Lakes, ditches and wonderful wildlife habitats attract birds such as grey herons as well as provide frogs, newts, fish and dragonflies a healthy habitat to thrive. The colourful flowers provide nectar for insects and the reeds and bulrushes provide shelter for nesting birds.
